My wife had the same thought. Any suggestions on how to locate a Piper in mid Michigan?

Perhaps post a separate thread requesting help from a Piper . Describe the event ( like you did here ) and ask if there is a Piper in the area that would be willing to help out .

Should you fail to find a piper, how about a CD of some pipe band music --the Black Watch for example which would also bring in the military and historical angles----- played in the background? Generally rather more rousing, more "musical" and therefore perhaps more effective and kinder on young non-Scots ears than perhaps a solo piper blasting away in a closed classroom might be?

Thinking on with this wonderful educational opportunity of yours, perhaps it could also be mentioned that not all Scots wander around Scotland clad in the kilt----if ever! Taking the various climatical differences into account the children will perhaps be surprised to learn that they will dress pretty much like Scots children do.

Thanks for the input Jock. I was thinking that a live Piper might overwhelm other class presentations since many will have audio presentations operating simultaneously, and we will certainly put together a presentation board explaining the kilt as Highland Scott apparel until more recently, and even now not daily wear for the vast majority. When researched and presented well international night is a great opportunity to educate and dispel stereotypes, when done poorly it serves to reinforce them. I am only one voice of input in this project, but I will do my best. Keep the suggestions coming rabble.

Please be careful about spelling when preparing the storyboards/text. Scott with 2 t's is a Clan/family surname (mine). Scot with one 't' describes a person born/raised/living in Scotland or their ethnicity.

Sorry to nitpick. Most times online I let misspellings pass, but sometimes, it just gets to me. If it's going to be presented in an educational arena, I feel proper spelling is very important.
