Most guys today use the flashes as "That little splash of color" in their outfit. There is no requirement that the flashes be the same or even similar to your kilt.
The same sort of holds true for the hose.
If we want our kilts, Tartan or solid colored, to be the centerpiece of our outfits it only makes sense not to push the kilt into the background by having the other items we wear be the same as the kilt.
Getting out of this thinking of matching the kilt and thinking of the outfit as a whole opens up all sorts of possibilities. Hose color coordinating with out shirts. Flashes coordinating with our tie or pocket square. etc.
It is actually sort of fun finding outfits that allow to kilt to shine.
