I agree with DyerStraits, regarding the monochrome look with chrome or stainless accents, though I also like the flannel shirt, scrunched socks, and jump-boots look.
I've seen DyerStraits in his leather kilt, very sharply dressed and not overdone.
One pitfall I can see with a leather kilt is it seems too easy to play into the over the top style of it and wind up looking like an extra in a movie like 'blade'
