Well, folks...
Looks like future wifey has vetoed the MacG and MacD option. Just a bit too pricey. And the other shop seems to have a shoddy reputation. How about J Higgins? They have quite a nice looking lovat green tweed jacket that's about halfway between the two in price if I skip the waistcoat (which I'll probably still buy later down the road if all goes well with the jacket). Is their quality decent?

Yes, it is. My black argyll jacket and waistcoat I bought from them. And, I have a machine-sewn kilt that's held up for 20 years.
