Casual wedding jacket color
I'm looking to purchase a jacket and waistcoat for my wedding. I'll be wearing my mother's tartan, the Wallace modern. It's going to be a pretty casual wedding, and I'd like to lighten up my attire a bit. A black or grey Argyll is my current fallback plan, but I'm considering something in lovat green to offset and highlight the dark/bold feel of the tartan. Maybe with lovat green hose and red flashes. What say you folks?

Interesting this. In actual fact from a traditional Scots point of view, what you are describing is standard traditional ------ lounge/ business suit equivalent------ wedding attire. Which is in no way regarded as casual by traditional kilt wearers in Scotland.
I have yet to master the new system of adding a picture to a post otherwise I could show a picture to demonstrate what I mean. I may get time later this week to try and master that problem, but if you go to the first thread in the traditional kilt section there may still be a picture( post 6 first picture) of what I mean there.

Good to know!
I worry about the colors clashing. The bold red along with lovat green tweed. But I do love the looks of a lighter colored jacket. Just seems brighter and more fun. Not so serious. It's not a funeral, after all.

I should be fishing! The sun---yes sun---in Scotland!-----is too bright at the moment so time for an early lunch. Anyway, don't worry about that clashing and matching nonsense! Its normal for us and the "fun" bit is never a thought. Honestly it isn't! Its something that you chaps over there seem to obsess about and we over here don't. You may be interested to know, we would dress up to go to a funeral in the attire that you describe(often with a black drop down tie) in your first post too. It is the kilt suit equivalent after all.

An example, two in fact, of what Jock described as standard traditional here in Scotland.

I see you're from Crieff. Our local annual highland games are your sister games, and quite a good time!
Anyway, love the looks I'm seeing. My better half not so much in some cases, hence why I worry about that matching stuff. Happy wife, happy life, ya know? Might be a good idea to at least start off on the right path. But I'll definitely be seeing what I can get away with.

I have a few photos that illustrate what Jock is talking about
Weddings
David and Alexandra Crichton sporting the clan tartan
Duke of Argyll wedding.
Funerals
Family members and friends of Chief of Clan McLeod, John McLeod walk to the burial ground at the old ruined church at Kilmuir, Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye, 24 February 2007. John McLeod was the 29th Chief of Clan McLeod.
James William Archibald Macnab of Macnab, 24th Chief of Clan Macnab and his brother Jeffrey Macnab at their father's funeral procession and service.
To my mind these outfits could be interchangeable and look on the whole perfectly traditional and proper.

All very lovely indeed. It seems as though, at least in the way I'm viewing things, the choice of sporran can add to the formality level of what might otherwise be a "day" jacket. Is this a correct thought?

Yes the accessories do change the formality of the outfit. I would suggest looking at the 1 kilt 10 looks thread
