My first kilt was a brown AmeriKilt, which I gave to my best friend when I outgrew it. Unfortunately it still had my XMarks badge on it as a kilt pin, so at least he’s wearing it in style!
In late 2016, I ordered my first tartan kilt from Wm. Glen and Son in San Francisco, an eight (or more) yard kilt in MacKenzie Ancient. My father’s side of the family hail from the Black Isle near Inverness, in MacKenzie country. I really prefer the softer lovat green and blue coloring to the mostly navy modern colors.
My next kilt, I expect, will be another eight-yarder in the MacColl Ancient tartan of my mother’s clan. That tartan is a soft, but fairly vivid orange with lovat blue and green in the pattern.
