    Welcome aboard !

Anxious to see pics of the new kilt when it arrives.

How long is it supposed to take to finish it ?

I think the estimate for the 8-yard wool kilts to be made in Scotland and then shipped to the USA is 8-12 weeks. Might just arrive in time for the Wisconsin Highland Games at the end of August. If not, I'll check status with the seller who will be there.

Welcome from another SCAdian and occasional wearer of the great kilt (more frequently seen in "modern" kilts).

    Welcome!

You being interested in the historical side of things, we're blessed to have the leading tartan historian as a member here on X Marks.

Here's a link to numerous articles he's written on various historical tartans

    https://www.scottishtartans.co.uk/research.htm

He's in Scotland with access to the original artifacts. Add to that he's a weaver himself so he has intimate first-hand knowledge of weaving techniques.

I on the other hand am more of a dabbler in historical matters. I'm in the USA and dependent on secondary sources though I have travelled to Scotland several times and have seen and photographed a number of the old portraits and museum relics.

One of my little forays was into the earliest sporrans which appear in the iconography, dating to the early 18th century. What sporrans looked like in the 17th century and before, who can say.

I've just moved from Montana (your username suggests you may be acquainted with the local fauna) to Las Vegas. Now, THAT is hot. Paradoxically, when Las Vegans step out in the evening they're often overjoyed to escape the brutality of the indoor air conditioning. However, I imagine my kilting will diminish greatly between early June and mid September. I did purchase a nice tweed waistcoat from St. Kilda in Glasgow to hide my suspenders if I ATTEMPT encasing myself in a wool 8 yarder.

I've been to the local Celtic Society's website, but it appears comatose, and I fear the late spring highland games that used to be well attended here are no more. Perhaps I'll at LEAST be able to find a Burns Supper in January.
