I guess it would be better suited for me to say that I don't really know how to handle someone who's being rude to me and be able to use a comeback that I could use infront of my grandma for example. I would rather use a comeback that'd be funny for both parties if possible if that makes sense.

Guys, I just looked at some of Jim's earlier posts, and realized that he's still in high school. We probably ought to take that into consideration when giving him advice. I know there's some guys his age on XMarks, maybe they could chime in here.

You might sniff a couple times and then say "oh! It's your opinion I smell."

If possible, it's best to leave them with a smile. That will show your confidence in yourself.

Jim, it depends I find (also a highschooler) on the type of comment. By far I get the guys who are in a pair, about two feet away, and say "why's that guy in a skirt" about 4 seconds before you pass by them, with that I find a "it's a kilt, though I can see you wouldn't pick up on that" tends to leave them stunned enough to pause a moment, maybe get giggled at, but not offensive enough to tick them off anything big. The other I find at school is the ladies and their "hey, nice skirt" and half the time they are sincere, just didn't affiliate it with a kilt (for... whatever reason), and as I do strive for some degree of politeness with those of the female persuasion, a cheery "it's a kilt, and thanks (possibly insert compliment if I know them at all)", leaves everyone feeling good. If you come up with any other, more malignant attacks, I'm curious what they were, they might be similar to mine (would rather not share my less than gentlemanly responses in public).

are these the jock types? i've defused situations before by cheeerily explaining that it's my equivalent of their baggy athletic shorts. then, compliment their shoes or something.

A soft answer turns away wrath, and being cheery and obviously not giving a darn helps a bunch too. Snappy comebacks feel good, but they are just not wise.

ok... I'm going to preface this with the fact that I have never had to use it in a "confrontational" manner. If someone takes a pot shot at me in a joking manner, I've been known to come back with this retort (in a KIDDING manner). The exchange usually goes something like:

"Why are you wearing a skirt, you (insert homophobic slur here)?"

"How are you gonna explain to your friends that you got your a$$ kicked by a guy in a skirt?"

That usually gets them chuckling and their friends laughing.
