Good Comebacks?
Does anyone know any comeback lines for people who are just being jerks to someone who's kilted? I'm thinking about flying in a kilt eventually and I don't want to just stand there while someone's mocking me.
Thanks,
Jim

There isn't any, really. Why lower yourself?
Read through the recent threads and you'll find a bunch. It's hard to plan since jerks show up everywhere and say/do anything.
Ontario culture is more aware of kilts but thing still come up. I've done aggressive things like walk up to the mouthpiece, or with my middle finger straight with my hand behind my back as I walk away. I've used Kiltday as a line and novacained them with history.
I've learned not to be surprised because it comes out of anybody, anywhere. I don't see myself as an ambassador for genteel kilt so my politeness depends on my mood and context. Fortunately, genteel kilt is not the image I present, and genteel kilt is not expected here in Ontario.
You can't plan specifics, only generalities. How far do you want to go? At a certain point, once you're ready, you've got to jump out the plane. I get more respect from people than disrespect, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. As another current thread has it, the special attention is worth it.

A raised eyebrow and a "Hey! Am I supposed to care what you think?
Honestly, with jerks, it's a toss-up. you can ignore them, challange them, or cut them off with a snappy come-back, but which of those you choose really depends on the situation, what they say, whether you're outnumbered by the antagonists or they're just one of a crowd... sometimes the ladies they're with will cut them off for you.
There's lots of comeback lines, but they depend on the right comment being said. Do some extensive reading on this site and you'll find how we have handled specific situations, but how you do it is up to you.
...and remember too, that we don't always have to take ourselves super-seriously, some humor can turn a tense situation into a drink-buying occasion on the others tab. ;)
BTW where are you located?

Dread, was that directed to the poster or was it a comeback for him to use? You're capable of both some days.
Respect.

Along the lines of Dread's reply...the one I use most often...(give a little twitch of the hips just to settle things in) "Some of us need more room than others"
AND LAUGH!

For him to use. I am to depressed to attack anybody. I am trying to make my self laugh.
Meh.

Here is one I learned from a wise person that I respect a great deal. Slightly paraphrased.
"You do not wish to insult me. You wish to have tea with me."

Sort of a paraphrase of one mentioned before:
"Some of us need the extra room."
(look at his pants)
"You must not."
