And I am impressed, made 5 of your own kilts already! I am still struggling to finish my first one, too little time.

io have a feeling there are many more kilt wearers in nyc - just a matter of getting the word out & getting them to come out of hiding. a friend sent me info on the New York Tartan Week in early April. that will have kilts galore on the streets of the city. I am gonna have to get busy with a true tartan kilt for teh occasion.

as for having made 5 already, my mther was an amatuer seemstress way back when - well at lest until i kicked her off her machine & was doing better work than she ever did. Have done suits, shirts & pants and various other garbover the years. Kilts are dead easy to make (so far...)and a lot more fun!!!

Thanks for the link to the NY Tartan day. Might have to plan a trip.

Your story sounds similar to mine, up until the part where you kicked Mom off her machine. My Mom never owned a sewing machine, but I picked it up in school (Home Economics) and loved it. So I took over the house hold sewing chores.

And kilts ARE amazingly simple garments. Much simpler to construct than pants or shirts! One long piece of fabric, folded to make pleats and a waistband. What could be easier?

From the look on more than a few peoples faces as we strode down 8th ave (what is it about weearing a kilt that makes you stride i wonder), i think many others had the same feeling - 6 burly guys in Kilts, black army boots & black coats .... was a lotta fun

little did they know we had been comparing hemlines, pleat depths and fabric contents just a few minutes before

Welcome to the strider from the Big Apple. Actually, I don't think there is a suitable alternative to striding in a kilt - anything else would just look weird!

What's the tartan that you (or the person holding the camera-phone in the image) are wearing? (I am seeing a tartan, yes?)
