I wouldn't worry about those hose turning out to be ordinary men's socks. They are listed as nicker hose in both English and Japanese (ニッカホース)。 Nicker hose are very similar to kilt hose in length are they not?

Yes, but the real concern should be that they may not match the tartan of the wearer.

It also looks like they'll have a plain turnover, as opposed to an argyle one.

Todd hit on my point exactly:
I understand that they are knee high socks (as worn with plus fours for traditional/vintage golfing dress etc.) HOWEVER utilizing that loud pattern and (likely) mismatched colors along with Tartan is rather like seeing polka dots, stripes and zebra print all with the same ensamble....Yikes!

I see. The learning continues here at X marks.

Still, I would think there might be a few tartans, and color combo's out there that could get away with a pair of these. For example; my only kilt is a SWK nightstalker. I would think I could match it with a pair of Blk/wht/grey argyles.

If anyone is interested, there is a sale on cotton hose at jas Townsend & Son http://jas-townsend.com/product_info...roducts_id=733

Some nice looking wool on their footwear page as well.
