I'm happy that you're leaving Chicago. I lived there for 45 years and I couldn't stand Chicago.
Now that I've insulted all sorts of Chicago people, let me explain.....
As I got older, every winter affected me more. It wasn't just the cold but also the snow, the ice, the commute in the winter weather, and all the cloudy days.
So to me a destination like Florida sounds SO MUCH better! Congratulations!

P.S. Also here in the desert I bet I can wear my kilt all year long.

I live a couple hundred miles north of Chicago and I wear my kilts year round with no problem. After all, kilts weren't developed in Barbados y'know.

Sorry to hear about your hard breaks, KiltedCW, but what a wonderful thing to have a house and your kith and kin to return to.... I'm happy for you.
Best wishes,
Scotty

Good luck with the move back, Rob. I'll be thinking of you.
I've moved house only twice in my life (I'm not counting the furnished flats I've rented in London) and, after we moved here 14 years ago, I vowed 'Never again'. If I have it my way, they'll carry me out of here feet first!!

Thanks all for the kind words and wishes. While we are looking forward to being back "home" and close to family and friends, we are NOT looking forward to the process! This will make the 3rd year straight that we have moved from one home to another. We moved in early 2004 to our current house in FL. Then had to move out of it to come to Chicago in mid-2005, and now are moving back to it. The saving grace is that we are returning to "our" home, and also a familiar place for us. It should eliminate some of the stress.
And Ham, we actually purchased the house we are moving back to as our "death" house, i.e., they would only take us out feet first. However, we were apparently optimistic! In today's world, especially when you are still part of the work force, you have to go where you can make enough money to make a living.

Good luck to you on the move, Rob! My wife and I moved 6 times in 6 years (and I had moved 8 times in the previous 7 years!), but we moved into the current house 22 years ago- and plan to move only once more: when we build the house we plan on retirement (downsizing)!
Don't worry- you'll get all those boxes sorted out in a year or two…
And I bet the girls will love Florida- although there may be some petitioning for trips to Orlando.
