Just a point of clarity there Tom, while the majority of the moderator team are American, I myself am Canadian, and Freelander is English born and now living in Norway. David certainly provides a European outlook and I am more than happy to add a Canadian perspective. The moderator team is quite diverse in our ideas and thoughts, but we do make sure to discuss any issues that come up as a team.

Yeah, but to throw someone on the mod team just because they live and/or where born in Scotland and not because they'll make a good moderator and/or we need another moderator is going to cause the same sorts of problems affirmative action caused here in the US... and there's no sense going there...
I feel the mod team here does a pretty good job, and I'm a firm believer in the adage that if it ain't broke, we don't need to be fixin' it...

Just my opinion, but what does it matter as long as the mods are doing a good job?
I think they are, no matter where they come from.
Whether or not a Scot is on the Mod Squad is irrelevant to whether this site functions well, with civility and comraderie.
This site is a nice place to be. So much so that I spend most of my internet time here. For me that's proof that the mods are doing their job.
I think your point IS well understood. It's just not that big of a deal to me.
It don't mean a thing, if you aint got that swing!!

I didn't miss the point of your thread Tom, I simply wanted to address one portion of it. You stated in your post:

I was simply pointing out that there were other percspectives than the American/Scot which you claimed. I was not saying that the perspectives that we have currently are equal or even similar to that of a native Scots, but as you point out yourself there is diversity in education, politics, life experience, etc based on locations. It is that diversity that makes the exchanges on this board so interesting to me. I love that I can read posts from all over Canada, the US, the UK, Europe, and Asia that share a common interest. For me it's the members of the forum which bring the diversity, fun, and tone to the forum, we just try to keep it civil based on the rules the owner of the forum set up.
As for a Scottish moderator, I agree with Captain that picking a moderator simply based on their location is silly. Maybe Hank will go that route in the future (picking someone from Scotland), I don't know as it is not my decision.
Back to your original question, you'll notice that the Glasgow teen thread has been fixed up (thanks Mike) and returned to the General Kilt Forum.

Again!!!!! subtle difference's I did'nt say the Mod's were'nt doing a good job?? or anyone should be made a mod because of where they live?? or that they would make a good Mod, because of where the live??? I expressed the opinion "What I find weird is a site with the emphasis on wearing the kilt and and an undoubted love for Scotland and all things Scottish!! Has no Scottish/Scot's moderator's I also don't understand the phrase "and/or we need another moderator is going to cause the same sorts of problems affirmative action caused here in the US... and there's no sense going there...

Maybe if we all met up at Ferintosh for a dram or two we'd understand each other better! (And if not, well we'd doubtless have a cracking good time anyway.)

I no longer drink alcohol but I'd certainly be up for meeting a lot more x-markers during 2007.
