Robertson and Steve,
Thank you so much for the explanation/translation. I had not heard of Saran wrap. Although I ha' me doots, I thought it might be some sort of sarong fabric and was trying to envisage kilts made from it .
I thought everyone, the world over, called clingfilm clingfilm! Apologies for my poor education!!

Well Finally
So I'm out today at a community forum...about 75 locals meeting with ideas to improve our little town. I'm wearing my Scott Modern Red handsewn from Kathy Lare, hose, flashes, sporran, nice shirt....not a comment...two and a half hours of socializing, speaking, wandering over to get chips and dip...no one made a comment or said anything about my being kilted.
Then finally...went to dinner at our local Mandarin place with a buddy. When we finish and we're walking back up front to pay the bill a Navajo father subtly points me out to his son. I caught the gesture and slowed down so the boy could get a good look.
Dang....I was tempted to thank the dad.
Funny how what used to seem to irritate me I can also miss when its gone. I think I qualify for all three of Mike1's catagories.

Come to think of it, I can only remember a few comments over the last 4 months or so. A lady commented that she wished more men would wear kilts. A pharmacist asked were he could get a Utilikilt for his son. Three "you must be cold" comments, and a lady wanting to know where she could get an Anderson tartan for her husband.
It always nice to get some positive comments, but It's also nice to go about your daily activities without anyone saying anything.

Whether you are wanting personal comfort, the opportunity to be proud of who you are, or just to be a rebel really makes no difference in the end. But there are still those three distinctly different categories, nonetheless.
All three categories for me. I am proud of my Celtic heritage I am comfortable of my Kilt wearing, and I am a different sort who is I am what I am.

My reasons - it's comfortable and different against commont garments. And another reason - cause some my friends kilted too.

Although I don't much comment from the clubs, I still get comments from strangers on the street. The majority of people want to know why I wear the kilt.

I guess, all three, though getting singled out isn't my favorite reason. I am with Ron, though. It is a little dissapointing, if not boring. I just returned from 4 nights and 3 days in Myrtle Beach. I had exactly 4 comments the whole trip. One was going into a restroom at an interstate rest area. That was, "aren't you cold?" I was wearing a modern Macneil 5 yard kilt. The other three were at The Medieval Times dinner theater. The nicest ones were from the young ladies where we entered the theater. "Oh look, a kilt" Then a short discussion with a middle aged couple about my Scot Irish heritage and Irish kilts. Lastly, an "Are you Scottish"? from the "King" while exiting after the show. Other than those, I walked all over the area wearing either my Macneil tank, the Macneil casual, or my Stillwater heavyweight black shadow tartan and no one even seemed to notice. Maybe Dread or some of the other SC kilties have educated Myrtle Beach already. Maybe, Nags Head next time.
