I always thought this was a case of the tailor being polite when preparing to take an inseam measurement and deciding which leg to use so not to disturb anything.

yeah, all along that's what I thought too. I just figured they asked so they'd stay away while measuring you.

Yes, it does matter, and yes, with "off-the-rack" clothes, men do "Squish everything to one side?" hence, the comfort of a kilt. Personally, I hang the jewels down both sides...two to the left, one to the right, if you must know. ;) ...I hate tight-fitting jeans. When I ride (western trail) I always wear tight briefs, and when cycling, I wear tight cycling shorts.

For my first actual hand-tailored suit, the tailor did ask which side I "dressed", and he explained to me, that he would put a bit more material on that side.

So, now, I hope you see, one reason why this forum is here, and why so many men, are finding out about the comfort of a kilt.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

This whole thread... Thinking about it makes me ache. I might not be the most gifted man, hell, I don't know if the water is cold or deep, but the man upstairs gifted me with some exceptionally large jewels in my sporran.

I couldn't dress to the left or to the right with off the shelf jeans. I had to hang one off to each side, which led to all kinds of hurt, chaffing, pain, rubbing, cutting, pain pain PAIN.

Kilts are so much kinder to the anatomy.

Dear old John Inman has this week moved on to the "Big Department Store in the Sky", only aged 71. He had been ill for a while. I guess now he can really say "I'm free!".

A propos the main topic: it is amazing to me that after many centuries of men wearing pants we still seem to forget about the "dangly bits" when designing men's bifurcated wear. Surely it is not beyond the wit of man to get it right - maybe a 2 1/2 leg pant - short leg in front?

Anyway, me - I'm quite happy in a kilt, thankyou!
