Stillwater kilt questions
Hello all
I am interested in purchasing an SWK. So far my only kilt is a tank?, I believe you guys are calling a worsted wool, 8 yd custom made? Anyway I like wearing it, but I would like a kilt I dont have to worry about so much.
So, are SWK standard kilts available in tartans different than they show on thier site, or do they change tartans fairly often? Are they available in differnt lengths? If not, how do you not wear a kilt too short or too long if they are the same length, but still hit the waist right?
Are the heavyweight wool kilts made of worsted wool? Are they pretty much a tank in all respects except for the custom made part?
Any other things anyone can add would be helpful, thanks all.
I have been looking at utilikilts too, but these are quite a bit more money.
Eric

zeeew,
Stillwaters come in one length (24")
Stillwater kilts are worn higher than casual kilts (at the natural waist at the navel instead of on the hips) just like all traditional kilts.
Jerry carries only a few tartans so he can keep the price down to a really reasonable amount. He does bring in new tartans, I believe the "Leatherneck" is new for Stillwater this year.
As for your other questions I suggest you email Stillwater kilts.
From Jerry, as with any or any of our other advertisers there is no better way to get the right information than to go to the source.
Cheers

For anything not on the site, you would have to call SWK and speak with them directly.

i've just ordered my first kilt from stillwater and every time that I have e-mailed a question I have recieved a verry prompt answer no mater how "dumb" the question was they have been extreemly profesional. If 24" is too long then they do tell you on thier site how to hem, if it's too short then just wear it lower (I assume as I have yet to recieve mine... please feel free to corect me if i'm wrong )

My wife, The Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess, actually wrote up a how-to pictorial on how to hem a Stillwater kilt.

I've spoken with Jerry..... I purchased a kilt from Jerry.
He remains my first choice in an "off the peg" kilt.
His service is great. The product exceedes expectations. (Did I mention he is fun to talk to.)

I've two SWK's. The "Standards" they offer today are "pretty much a tank in all respects except for the custom made part", and the material they're made of; acrylic instead of worsted wool. The quality of the fabric isn't as nice, but is great for $80; I think it actually holds pleats better than my worsted wool. As for the length, they're worn like a military kilt; up under your ribs; not down on your hips like blue jeans (IMO, like all good kilts should be). If necessary, they can be hemmed; there's a good thread here somewhere on that subject. Can't beat the quality and service for the price (order today, and I'd be surprised if it wasn't delivered by Wednesday).
