Finances and other obligations are keeping me here. I'll be eagerly awaiting a photo-filled report on the proceedings though. I hope you all have a great time. Hoist one for me and I'll be thinking of all of you as I hoist a few here.

Since I live here, I'll certainly be at the games, both days. Look in the vicinity of the St Andrew's Society of Southern Nevada tents for a bearded old fart in a Hunting Grant (aka Black Watch) kilt. (My wife doesn't like for me to wear my Grant kilt, which she made, where it might get messed up whilst fetching, carrying, and doing similar grunt work.)

Do you know if there will be a Ceihlidh on Saturday night? I couldn't find any reference to one on the LV Celtic Society page. If not, perhaps we could arrange an Xmarks get-together on Saturday night?

Ron...it's too bad you won't be able to make it. We were looking forward to being able to meet you.
I think the Tilted Kilt would make a great place for a Friday meet-n-greet. Patti and I can be there by 8pm (I think).

I am so confused...my lady's schedule just changed again, but it still looks bleak for me.
If its helpful in decision making, Nine Irish Gentlemen is more subdued, dignified, whisky-type place...like someone's home...and with very good Irish and regular food.
Tilted Kilt at Rio is open to the Rio floor, a roudy beer and pool type place with bar type food.
Were there time, I'd suggest a leisurly dinner at Nine Fine Irishmen followed by time at the Tilted Kilt.
Also, Nine Fine Irishmen is open for lunch where the Tilted Kilt is an evening only gig.
And, the gift shop at the Tilted Kilt is where the Tilted Kilt Las Vegas t-shirts and jackets are found. They still don't sell on line. Ya gotta visit.
Nine Fine Irishmen also sells good looking t-shirts at their gift shop. Take money.
Both places were happy to see a kilted customer when I visited last August.

That's too bad, Jamie. I understand your situation, though. We have to cut our vacation short due to the job action at my work. We had hoped to leave Vegas after the games and head to San Diego, then travel up the coast to Vancouver. Now it will be just a trip to Vegas and back.
Pictures should be posted nightly as I'll have my laptop with me. I've already set it up so I can FTP pics and pages to my website.
And we'll definitely be hoisting a drink or 4 to those who are with us in spirit!

I'm personally leaning towards the Tilted Kilt for a Friday get together starting at 8-ish. A nice rowdy pub would be fun for the rabble to meet at, methinks.
Perhaps if there's nothing happening on Saturday night we can all head to the 9 Fine Irishmen pub. It would be a nice place to sit around and reflect on the events at the games.

I don't know. However, I'll be at the So NV St Andrew's Soc meeting on Thursday evening (that is, tomorrow night) and I'll ask the president of the LV Highland Games. If HE doesn't know, we're in trouble. ISTR some mention of the exact venue within the Fremont Street experience being shifted, which would imply that it is going to be held. In the past there has also been a welcome gathering in a local pub on Fridays, and I'll ask about that too.

I spoke to Guy Parker, the President of the LV Celtic Society tonight at the St Andrew's Society meeting. There isn't going to be a formal ceilidh: it had gotten so big that it interfered with the primary business of the Fremont St Experience, to wit, separating tourists painlessly from their money. Instead, there are going to be informal get-togethers Friday and Saturday evenings at Hennesey's Tavern, at the east end of the F street experience (at Fremont and Las Vegas Blvd.) Estimated time, and I quote, "from 5 or 6 PM to whenever".
