Ive played em in all weathers and temps and as long as they have cork grease on they are never any trouble, I used hemp for years but Id never go back, Gordon Duncan used to use PTFE tape I tried it and wasnt keen sometimes use it to lift a chanter reed but thats all,

Honestly dont knock it , its really good, as long as you keep them greased with cork grease from the music shop thay are great. cork regains its size whne uncompressed so dismantling the drones once a month overnight keeps them airtight.

Cork joints on pipes are fine and an excellent innovation. I've used cork and hemped joints and find the cork easier to maintain and longer lasting. I've 2 sets of pipes with cork (SSP and Border Pipes both made by Ray Sloan) and find the cork longer lasting and needing less maintenance than the hemped joints on my other pipes.

Cork? Who'd a thunk it. I'm definitely interested. I have McCallum pipes w/ McCallum chanter. How would I get the cork on the stocks/sticks?

Take the entire set to a qualified musical instrument repair tech, be prepared to leave the set for a few days and tell him what you want done and show him precisely where the cork should be applied. Then be a nice person and pay the bill when the instrument is ready.

Speaking of the hemp.....
On the practice chanter. what do you do when the hemp gets compressed and the head joint starts wobbling around?
