Woodsheal and I exchanged some PMs on HISTORIC shoes. He referred me to these:

http://www.personal.utulsa.edu/~marc...OES/SHOE55.HTM
http://www.personal.utulsa.edu/~marc...OES/SHOE56.HTM
Those also are similar to some illustrations in history books on the "dark age" Scotland (the term "dark age" refers more to OUR lack of knowledge -thanks to Vikings- about them than anything about the people of the 5th to 11th centuries -using the largest dating brackets).
He also pointed out that Scottish footwear didn't change much and the SAME shoe styles are described in the 6th century as in the 17th (and 18th)!
He also said that the Smoke and Fire "Gillie Brogues" look like NOTHING he has seen in Scottish finds.
So, if you want ACCURATE historic shoes/brogues, look at the ones "over-the-counter" in Woodsheal's post or the pattern above.
-By the way, our "Woodsheal" is VERY highly respected and authoritative figure in Jacobite/Highlander reenactment circles. His "opinion" usually has an ENORMOUS amount of research behind it. When in doubt or "don-know," I lean to following his opinion.
