I really think it depends on the colors and hues in your kilt. You want to go with something that will accent and enhance your kilt without over stating it.

I agree. And I will fall back to cream/off-white if I don't have hose in a colour that will accent the kilt I wear. I've never attended a funeral, but I would think that black hose would suffice.
