Kilts to your health!
OK, I need to lose some weight.
There... I said it.
A few years ago, I was running 5 miles per day, working out, eating right, coaching soccer, and a lean 160lbs.
Now, the only distance I seem to run is to the 'fridge... taking the garbage out is the closest I get to working out... eat right? Hah!... I watch my daughters/newphews/grandkids play soccer from the stands... and I weigh... well, never mind.
Additionally, I have a more sedentary job... which doesn't help.
So, where am I going with this?
I'm going to make an honest effort to get back into better shape. Aside from a better diet, one of the 1st things I'm going to do is start walking/hiking again. (The wife And I enjoyed this, together, when we first met... no reason we can't enjoy it again)
This gives me an excuse to wear my kilts whilst walking/hiking. They're comfortable, give freedom of movement, and give cause for great conversations for those we meet along the way. As a bonus, I can use this as an excuse to expand my celtic wardrobe: "Honey, I'll need a few more kilts, if we're going to stick with our walking regime"
Besides, if I lose weight, I'll need new kilts, now won't I?![Wink](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Seems like a Win-Win scenario, to me

I too have been lazy of late, but am still on a slow downward spiral. Down in pounds that is.
Wearing the kilt has made me more active and while I still love to eat, find the compulsion that got me this huge slowly fading.
Confidence is a wonderful thing. I love to do Kettlebell workouts in my kilt. (that's a lot of freedom, watch your six re: kids, neighbors )
Good luck with your regimen.

Ever the optimist, I would add that gaining weight also justifies buying new kilts. Or, is that being a pessimist?

Whether you're gaining or losing, you always need kilts that fit, right? And besides, most of us fluctuate a few pounds in either direction, so it might be a good idea to have a spectrum of sizes.![Wink](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
I needed to gain five pounds or so so that my kilts would stay up. My wife likes me nice and skinny, but somehow, the kilt situation made the weight gain acceptable. But, I'm six feet tall with a 30 inch waist, so five pounds gained is not something I need to be concerned with.

Here are a few things that helped me lose weight:
1. Park the car at the far end of the car park
2. Use stairs instead of elevators
3. Stand up and walk in place during commercials when watching television
4. Try to walk around the block at least twice per day
If you're exercising less, that means you can eat less too because your body doesn't require the same amount of fuel it used to (you don't push the gas pedal to the floor if you only want to go 10 MPH, right?). So:
1. Eat only when actually hungry
2. Never fill yourself up (eating until "full" is bad for your body anyway)
3. Go to bed hungry

Well, the wife and I started our walking regime this evening.
We're quite fortunate... the local school has a beautiful nature center/park with miles of trails... and the entrance is 2 blocks from my home! (We often walk the dog there)
Had a nice 4 mile jaunt, at a brisk pace.
I went kilted, in my Black Amerikilt, with a cheap black sporran, grey pullover shirt, and black jump boots. (Wife really likes me in it, too.)
Very comfy for walking!
Met with positive reactions, along the way (we were trying to keep our pace up, so no stopping for chit-chat).

Aside from a better diet, one of the 1st things I'm going to do is start walking/hiking again.
This is how I started losing weight. I'm down 30 pounds from when I started, all from walking, and eating less food (and no snack food, including candy, cookies, and chips).
Keep at it. It'll show results.

I just recently got back down to a 30. That's the size I was in high school, too, but that was less than a decade ago. I gained almost 50 pounds when I switched from a labor job to a desk job, and was pushing a size 36. After watching my (now) father-in-law eat himself to a stroke at age 50, I decided I'd start taking care of myself now, while I'm still young.
