    Brass is the right answer - unless one could find a copper colored buckle. Now that would look smart on a
    brown belt.

    I'll toss in my vote for brass as well. I think it's just more asthetically pleasing. I had Cavscout affix my brown belt with a brass roller buckle as well as using brass hardware for my matching brown leather sporran strap. However, I'm also with pdcorlis, copper hardware would be SMASHING! Never thought of that actually, but I am now!

    I'd be afraid of the copper oxidising on my kilt, unless it were well sealed in some sort of tarnish-resistant finish.
