Wearing Your Medals With Your Kilt

Ah... a fellow submariner. Check the signature line. No pocket rocket here though... fast attack tough all the way. Probably won't ever get the chance to go 3 knots to no where.
I sport my fish as a kilt pin on occasion, and wear them on my cavalier hat at Ren faires.

There are several of us bubbleheads here though you are the only one who seems to want to divide us into the separate camps as if one were inherently better than the other.

I had a jeweler copy my Dolphins and Detergent Patrol Pin in sterling to serve as kilt pins on a kilt made from the Polaris tartan. Someday when I have the dollars....

That's too funny.....Too many Navy jokes from that one, so I'll just keep them to myself....Go Army!!!!I did my "exhibitions" in Desert Storm and OIF....I'm sitting on my 20 but have bigger goals....must make E-9. I'll do 30.

By no means do I mean to split us up. I made the fast attack comment out of jest. Truth be told, I'd jump through flaming hoops if they'd let me go to a Trident!

I would love to see photos of that! Do you have the two insignia as one pin, with the Patrol Pin below the Dolphins?

Yeah... you're a submariner. Making jest at someone else's faux pas. For whatever reason, my brain thought Expeditionary, but my fingers typed Exhibitionary. Oops... my bad.

I am a plankowner of my second boat,the New York City (SSN696), a Los Angeles class attack boat.

I'm on my third 688 (2 I boats and 1 fairwatered boat). #1 was USS Toledo (SSN 769), #2 was USS Honolulu (SSN 718) and I'm now serving on USS Santa FE (SSN 763). I showed up to the Toledo 10 months after commisioning.

I have contacted A-Hay about having a sporran made with a set of dolphins. It has been a while and I have to get back to him.

That sounds awesome. I might have to try my hands at tooling some fish into some leather.

I did take a spare set of dolphins and attached them to a black kilt buckle I purchased from Jerry at SWK. It looks good when I wear it with my Nightstalker.

As soon as I get the funds together, I will be speaking with Alexis about an 8-yarder Polaris tartan. She can have hat pins made with a first class crow or other rates.

I'm bound and determined to get the USN Hillwalker, a nicely matched formal sporran, and a matched fly... all to go with my dinner dress white jacket next time Sub Ball rolls around (and I can go, and I can afford the afore mentioned attire {I do have the jacket already}).

Sorry for getting off topic. I wear my dolphins and patrol pin on a vest when I am riding my Harley. I ride with the American Legion Riders, Patriot Guard Riders, other members of the USSVI, and have ridden the Run For The Wall (California to DC) the past three years. I count as friends (and family) vets from WWII to today's conflicts. Too many funerals in the past two years, but we are there to support those who make the ultimate sacrifice for all of us.

Indeed. I've already said I wear my Dolphins outside of my uniform. I have zero issue at all with one wearing medals in the same fashion. I simply choose to limit myself to the Dolphins. They're about the only thing I feel I had to work for, though I suppose I did have to work to get my NAMs.

Quite an interesting thread. I've learned quite a bit.

I will say that US Army retirees are authorized to wear the uniform and also it's accoutrements any day of the year.
