    New U. S. A. Tartan

At the Central Florida Highland Games this weekend, a new tartan was premiered. U. S. A. (United Scots American) Tartan. They presented it to the Mayor of Winter Springs and the British Shoppe was selling the first run of it in 16oz off the rack kilts. They were on sale at $350 (Normally $400).

Honestly, it reminded me of one of the other American tartans we've all seen.

    Enjoy,

    Dan

Apart from any comment on the tartan itself, I would have to say that its name is a bit misleading, since technically it is not targeted to the general U.S. population.

    Strange name though?

I like it myself, but I confess I'm disappointed with the acronym.

USA is good enough for me.

On the plus side, I guess this shows that tartan design is alive and thriving, just like when Wilson and Sons were in business. On the other hand, I wish more people would wear the USA Bicentenniel/ St. Andrews tartan. It's older, already has a history, and, to my eye, is a more complex, tartan-y(if I can coin that term) design. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I'd love to see a resurgence in these older, fabulous tartans with American roots.

BTW, I have 2 DW yards of the American Bicentenniel in 16oz. that I'll be putting up on ebay unless someone here wants it first. Matt Newsome could turn it into a Box-Pleat like this one:

I think the name refers to a Scottish-American organization; perhaps Daniel will correct me on this.
