There's quite a few hotels in that area, that's literally downtown Atlanta.

Right. That's why I'm looking for suggestions. I have no clue about the area, or whether it's a good place to stay. Though some on here would say "I have no clue" pretty much covers everything with me.

Downtown on Peachtree is a perfectly safe place to stay. Straying a few blocks, the streets are a little darker, but I still feel safe there. You're fine in any of the larger hotels on Peachtree or other main streets like Spring. You previously mentioned "motels" which had me thinking you may be getting closer to the sketchier areas.

If you don't mind a short (5 minute) ride on the Marta, there's several places in Midtown near Georgia Tech. The Regency Suites on West Peachtree is a reasonably priced business class hotel. There's also better restaurants, etc in Midtown. I use Marta regularly, it's clean and safe.

    Thanks for the info.
I use "motel" and "hotel" to mean the same thing, even though I know they don't.
Looking online, I find quite a few hotels within a couple of blocks of the venue which is close to Centennial Olympic park. There is a Holiday Inn, Marriot, etc. Would they be good?
I've never stayed in this area, or midtown and don't know much about them. And I've never ridden the Marta.

    Thanks again.

Within walking distance, you have The Westin-Peachtree, The Omni @ CNN Center that come to mind. For food, Ted's Montana grill is across the street from the Tabernacle as well as McCormicks and Schmidts and Jocks and Jills in the CNN center. Ofsourse there is more, but this should give you a starting point.
