I kind of liked that the Earth Alliance ships on B5 looked function (let's here it for rotating midsections for artificial gravity!). I can remember having a conversation with my Dad as a kid about the design of the Enterprise and how exactly the thing would really move through space based on the design. Never talk about Star Trek with an engineer (especially how the transporter system really works! 
)
I liked the Reliant's design much better than the Enterprise's in the second movie.
