Saw one tonight out at "The Pub"

Me and Dana went out for a beer and I had to try out my new BW SWK.

The Tripp items that Hot Topic carry are "lower-grade" items, generally made in overseas. The US-made Tripp stuff is high quality for the most part, but about 3x the price. Hot Topic does not carry the high-end Tripp products for the most part, and I believe that the overseas-made Tripp products are produced exclusively for Hot Topic. I believe their Lip Service products are also lower-end and made overseas, although I have plenty of US-made Lip Service products that are top-notch. LS also makes a "fashion kilt" as well, and while it's well-made, it still looks more like a "man-skirt" than a kilt. You'd be better off with a casual from USAK or one of the other vendors here, and it would only cost about $20 more.

I still pretty much consider myself as goth and I like these kilts. I like them but I have yet to buy one yet. This is not a kilt that I will be wearing it often and I will mainly wear it to the club for a night of dancing. I also see plenty of guys wear these at the local clubs as well.

I have seen these kilts up close and I don't think the material is half bad. They are pretty much like the inexpensive jeans that most people buy these. Don't even try to deny the fact that you have never bought any cheap shorts or pants in the past.

These kilts are made for the purpose of fashion and they can easily over look the quality. Also, not every one like the stuffy look of the traditional looking kilts that most of us wear.....

I don't know.. I live in Seattle, and when the punks, etc. (myself included) want a tough unbifurcated look, we wear a Utilikilt. They're not traditional, and they're definitely not whatever that is from Hot Topic.

That being said, to each their own, but I don't like them. They don't look Scottish, they don't look tough, the patterns are kinda ugly, etc... Go to Utilikilts, or USA kilts, or Stillwater, and you'll end up better looking because of it. You might spend more money, but you'll get way more quality than buying something at Hot Topic.

Well, except for stickers, man, they have cool stickers.

They may not look tough, but If you are a real punk, you can make the kilt looks tough. The kilt is only part of the package.

IMHO you would be better off buying a USA Casual Kilt, a Sport Kilt, or a cargo kilt of some sorts and then modify it to look "goth". I for one do not like the colorful bag with chains and zippers on it, but to each his own I guess.

If I wanted to go "goth" I would make my own so it was actually me. Unless I am missing the point of what "goth" is all about. Most of those I know who call themselves "goth" pride themselves on their individuality so they modify their clothing to show who and what they are about.

I saw one at the Chicago Highland Games last year and, I'll be blunt, I hated it.

Punks and goths can pull the Tripp kilts off, but I'm not quite sure about metalheads. If I were to wear a kilt with my metal attire, I'd wear my Wallace Sportkilt, my blackie, or get a black denim Utilikilt.

I guess it's how you wear it, but I wouldn't wear one.

Just my $.02 as a guy who has been in the punk scene since '98...

If you are are real punk, you'd make or modify your own, not buy your "rebellious" look at the mall...
