I saw this on the news this morning. I had no idea about the origins of the melody or the lyrics. I'll never think of the song the same way again.

I'm sorry, Trefor, I forgot that that may not be something that's common knowledge outside the USA. I meant it sarcastically, anyway. The Kennedy Center Honors are given for "significant cultural contributions to the performing arts". It's one of my "go-to" references when I'm being sarcastic...much like my insistence that the guy who invented the "magic can" (the one with the little nitrogen capsule in it) for Guinness should get the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
