I have to gently mention, just for informations sake, that while the colors are wonderful in the Frugal Corner material, the stuff itself is nowhere near the weight or consistency of 13 ounce wool. It's good stuff for what it is and I've made tartan articles from it....but it's not anything at all like 13 ounce wool.

Thanks for that. I was of course quoting from their site. As I said the weight will take some getting used to, but it is very comfortable. Anyone who has one want to comment on the durability of the pleats? How often do they need an ironing? What about after washing?
I like the colour a lot--one day I'll be to afford a proper IoS, and I know it will be different--and it suits my purpose of being seen on the water. Wool is really not suitable for salt water racing, so the acrylic is a great addition to the slowly growing collection.

Marton Mills or Lochcarron have quite a nice quality of wool. Both are authorized sellers of the IOS tartan as well.
