I'm a big sporran fan. They bring balance to the kilt and are very functional. All your stuff is in one, central location. With pockets, stuff is not always readily accessible.
For example, I was carrying a big heavy box, in my left hand and needed to get my keys in my left pocket. I could've put the box down, but the ground was wet, so i had to reach over with my right hand and awkwardly fish out my keys from my left pocket. If I had a sporran, they would've been right there in front with a wide opening for easy access.
Vive la sporran.
