SB~ Good for you! Weather permitting, I go kilted every day on my errands. Small town West Virginia isn't negative and I've been hooted & hollered at.
Enjoy!

The correct size had been sold out, it seemed but with help from a shop assistant I succeeded to get one. Handing it to me she gave me a second glance or perhaps two of them. Then she asked: “Are you sure about the size, sir?” And with a quick turn of her head she pointed to the fitting rooms.
Obviously her trained eye had told her that it might be on the small side for me to wear.
“I am”, I answered. “My wife has tried it on less than three hours ago, and she hasn’t gained or lost weight that much that it won’t fit her anymore.”
“O but fine”, she answered and looked delighted. “Card or cash, sir?”
Could it be because of my kilt? Or is it that men simply don’t buy skirts, not even for their wives? Or especially not for their wives?
I found the episode rather amusing.

That's a fantastic story. Thanks for that!

That's really funny! I wonder why it is that many of us shy away from doing things like that even when not kilted? If I ever buy lingerie for my wife, I always end up buying a 'Happy Birthday Wife' card at the same time even if it's nowhere near her birthday! Not sure if I'd be brave enough to do that kilted just yet though

Congrats on being out kilted, SportBilly!
What a great story about the skirt, Greg.
I have to admit, my husband went to Victoria's Secret for me, all by himself (not kilted -- he didn't have one at the time). It was a confidence test to himself to waltz in and find what I wanted and not freak out. I loved hearing him tell me all about his little adventure. Heheheh! Of course, there did happen to be a sale going on, so he felt REALLY out of place in that crowded shop. The saleslady was very helpful about making sure he got what he needed, though.
He's still getting used to wearing the kilt out in public so I don't think he would do anything like V'sS in a kilt. It depends on his mood or the timing whether or not he will wear it certain places, and that's one of those places that can be uncomfortable enough as it is for a guy, I think.

Thanks Cynthia! Maybe we can add the 'VS Test' as a final check on a list of what it takes to be totally comfortable when kilted in public

On our way to the checkout, one of them said 'I like your kilt' in a smart-alec kind of way. My reply was 'You should do, I bought it here' and walked away. Hopefully that's confused them a little!
I cannot believe these women had the nerve to do that working for Walmart.
Walmart has a zero tolerance policy again'st discrimination of any kind.
That means Race,Religion, sexual preferance,LGT,and i'm sure a guy wearing a kilt is in there some where.
My wife is a Manager over the womens dept. at our local Walmart, and if she was to see any of the women (or men) doing this they would be called up to the main office.
I know for a fact none she works with do it because they know i wear kilts and they sure would'nt think of saying anything about it in front of her.
Those women that did that to you were just lucky thier Manager did'nt see it,or they may have been out looking for a new job.

I usually wear a kilt to Walmart... It's expected at this point. Guess I go about twice a month. The people at the in-store sandwich shop have asked me why I'm not wearing a kilt when I did wear jeans, and the check out people have told me from time to time that they like my kilts. Never had any problem with the Walmart people. Little scared of the wild children that have escaped their parents though...
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

That's very interesting - I imagine that if I'd made some sort of complaint though the woman could just say that she meant it sincerely and that I merely took it the wrong way (as we all know though, there's a difference in intonation when someone's being smart). Still that in itself isn't going to put me off - if anything it'll make me do it all the more
Oh and I hope my story didn't suggest that all Wal Mart employees are like that, I'm sure it was just a one-off incident, despite one or two lingering glances from other employees. Something that came to mind at the time was an incident at the same Wal Mart last year with a homeless-looking guy who was walking around in a waist-length lightweight jacket, women's bikini bottoms and flip-flops. I went to complain to Customer Services (because certain parts of his anatomy - am I allowed to say that? - were barely covered). Their answer? 'Oh him? He's often in here'
