I've been obsessing lately over Sgt MacKenzie. The tune is great, the lyrics are meaningful, and the background story is very stirring.

Nothing stirs me like Caber Feigh which I rarely hear. Best martial tune going, in my opinion.

There are SOOO many to choose from, it's terribly hard!
But I think above all the fun tunes and piobs. the 3/4 march "Kilworth Hills" is one of my favorite tunes ever.
As for the uilleann side of things, The Morning Thrush by Tom Ennis is one of the best reels composed ever.

The Morning Thrush, played by Seamus Ennis:

And Kilworth Hills, played by Gary West on the D Smallpipes:

    Enjoy!

Amazing Grace makes the hair stand on the back of my neck!! I was in the Burial Detail in Lemoore CA we were at a service early in the morning a low level fog that went from the ground to about 3 high was everywhere. The piper was on a hill behind our rifle detail, and when the drones started it was EERIE and beautiful. I have never heard it the same since.

I also have to say Sgt MacKenzie is another.

I have to agree. You can tell who are the pipers here. I thought the subject of the thread was "highland" blood? One genre only and many to choose from...Piobaireachd!!! I prefer "Cill Chriosd" and "An Grotha (the Groat).

Piobaireachd bores me silly, Ive seem some fantastic pipers ruin their performances with 15 minute Piobaireachd tunes.
very much an aquired taste, the only one Im keen on is "Lament for the children" thats quite nice

Used to hate when Pipey would say "right lads and lasses ready for some Piobaireachd??"

    Nope

I disagree, but opinions are like...everyone has one. Depends on who is playing and if they are playing for the competition/judging nazis. Pipers like Brown and Allan MacDonald are showing people how exciting ceol mor can be. It doesn't have to be that "same-'ol'same-'ol" most are used to listening to. How did the pipers ruin their performance? Length is dictated by the tune. No one's gonna play a piobaireachd for 15 minutes because they felt like it. For someone finding it boring, you picked a fairly boring tune to be keen on in my opinion.
