In the grocery store today wearing my Prince Charles Edward Stewart kilt I was asked "Are you from Scotland?" When I said "no" I was asked "Then why the kilt?"

"I'm celebrating the anniversary of the Battle of Culloden, 1745" was met with a blank stare. Guess she was not a European history major.

I was working with The Life & Adventures of Charles Edward Stewart vol. 4 (from 1903 I believe) late at work last night (I work in an archival library) and The Skye Boat Song came on with my ipod set to random.

The coincidence of the book, the song and the date was not lost on me and I got a bit of a lump in my throat as I paused to hear the song play out.

Most people, excepting pipers, don't know that the lyrics to The Skye Boat Song were written by Sir Harold Boulton to a melody collected by Miss Annie MacLeod, circa 1875.

    Sir Harold was an Englishman.

I wore my Macdonald Modern tank and went about my day as normal.
I think the only person around me who knew the date was my Dad.
I had ancestors who fought on Teārlach's side and hastily changed the surname from Macdonald to Donald before moving to a different part of Scotland afterwards.

I wore my saltire pin today. I would have gone kilted to work, but we are doing a major cleaning before our office open house. The only person to really ask about the pin was my coworker who broght it back for me from Dunedin. I think I shall finish my night up by reading the chapter about the Jacobite Years in David R Ross's "A passion For Scotland"
Thank you for reminding us all Ron.

Hmm, great minds... I wore a black shirt & hose with the Wallace. I considered the SWK black shadow, but it did not feel like a "Clan Paladin" day.
