    Culloden Center

    Hi Gents,
Here is a preview of the up and comming Culloden Center. I personally believe that it looks ugly, cheap, sterile, and seems lacking in cultural content. I have never been a great fan of these types of displays in museums, which seem to be so popular at this time. As a scholar of Highland history and Gaelic culture, it makes me sad to see this type of structure attached to the landscape. What do you think?

I think it looks pretty good.

Visited the visitors centre last summer and it's very small now...the new centre will be a great improvement. I'm almost always impressed by the quality of the British museums, so I'm not too concerned.

It is hard to tell from the 3d run through, though the animators try they can only do so much with the limitations of the programs used for such a presentation.
I will reserve judgment until I see the bricks and mortar for myself.

I like it. They used native stone and wood in its construction and placed it so it is out of sight from the battlefield.

Well done. I hope to get there, someday.

    new culloden centre

I for one can't wait to go and see the new centre. I was one of the guys used for the immersion rrom shown at 2.40 in that footage. I've long thought that Culloden needed a better visitors centre and am glad to see this come about.

To those who question whether this thread belongs here, I think that it should definately be seen and read by all. Culloden was a turning point for the kilted brethren. Scots fought for both sides. the majority of the Government army were Scots, and men on both sides were kilted. Add to this that it was because of th '45 that kilts and bagpipes were prohibited outside the army, and I think that all kilted men of scottish heritage should be pleased to see their heritage given the pride and prestige it deserves.

Like Robin, I was very impressed with every museum I visited in Scotland, and I'm sure this one will be top-drawer as well. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

It looks to be a great improvement over the previous visitors' centre. I'm hoping that it's been done in a way that's sensitive to the site.

I vividly recall the experience of spending an afternoon there, 11 years ago.

Been to the old Culloden visitor centre and personally I felt that the existing visitor centre was ample. Even on an Easter Sunday when there was a re-enactment, it wasn't particularly busy, and I wouldn't have thought it necessary to build a replacement.
