    It occurred to me that you're seeing prices per yard/meter for double width fabric. That is, 4 yards will make an 8-yard kilt.

    You may want to consult the Scottish Tartans Museum shop, USA Kilts, Celtic Croft (all Xmarks sponsors). Their customer service is tremendous in all ways. [Edit: using a stateside retailer will avoid your having to deal directly with import/customs issues.]

    I know that the Crofts retail both the wool and polyviscose fabric. They list some tartan and tartan-trimmed gowns, too, but those are pretty high-dollar if I recall correctly.

    Rocky of USA Kilts is known for making nice kilts of the St. David's National in PV, and may be able to supply some trim fabric along with it. If a PV kilt is in the plans, I'd try to get it made by Rocky and save your seamstress the learning process (assuming she has not yet made kilts).

    Matt of the STM is, of course, a hero of tartan knowledge and kilt-making.
