    Sorry, I don't know about these things, but is the hose matching the shirt a real convention? What is the different between ghillie and regular brogues?

    It's often been said here that it looks good to match the hose with the color of the shirt. However, as has been said, if you wear a jacket much of the shirt is covered. I like to match my hose with my jacket. Both should be toned to coordinate with the kilt.

    I find the having the hose matching the dominant color on the torso sort of frames the kilt.

    And of course, this is not a "rule". It is one way to present a coordinated and balanced appearance.

    Thanks, Dave. I guess I hadn't noticed those threads among the many topics of interest on here. It might be irrelevant, since this convention leaves me wearing either black or white hose to go either with my black Argyll (barathea?) or a plain dress shirt.

    Lucky for me I tend to go more casual when I'm kilted.
