Not much of a family resemblance, but I'll tell you what ... I hope I look half as classy as him when I'm that age.

Yes, what a treasure! I appreciate it, especially as I had the only existing photograph of my G-Grandfather, only to have it destroyed in a fire. ![Crying or Very sad](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_cry.gif)
Is it the perspective, but his sporran looks huge!

What!!?? An historic picture of a non-American, non-piper in a Glengarry cap? How can this be?? ![Wink](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Only kidding, of course. I'm very fond of the Glengarry and wear one myself; however, you hear people say this is only for soldiers, pipers, or Americans who don't know any better. Thanks for sharing the great photo!

Uh, Hello! It Ain't Backwards!

I never fail to be amazed when people suggest photographs are printed backwards. I offer this advise: Look for buttons. A gentleman's buttons are on the right. Now look at the buttons in the photo... yup, they are on the right. While some early photos (usually glass plate photographs and some "tin types") are reversed image photos, the vast majority of photographs are printed right side around. Probably the most famous "backwards" photo is that of William Bonney, aka "Billy the Kid". For years historians looked at the photo and assumed Billy was left handed. Then someone pointed out that the buttons were on the wrong side, and even the loading port on his Winchester rifle was on the wrong side. This has led to a general belief that all old photos are printed backwards, which just isn't the case.

The buttons appear correctly on the right now because BMacKay corrected the picture after I posted. Refer to his subsequent post. Originally, the buttons and his cap badge were reversed clearly evidencing the the pic was showing the image backwards.
