After James fled Ireland in 1690, he became known in Irish as Séamas an Chaca. I won't translate it, as this is a family-friendly forum!

Thought you may like to know the following, my original family name is Mew, my teacher some 50years ago a historian researched my (along with others) family name. It is listed (apparently) in the doomsday book as being in the Isle of wight a prisoner from France living / working in the stables with the name Mieux ("Ce mieux" en faite).
It appears that "Mews" are named from this and all Mews and Meiux are traceable to the Isle of Wight.
He apparently was the "stabler" for the Carisbrooke house on the Island and the name continues today as the Brewery.
And I live where? France. This information, as is obvious, comes from deceased sources.
