Anyone want to purchase a very nice Buchanan skirt? It's wool, and made in Scotland.

I'm going to vote skirt on this one. No matter what you call it, it's a far cry from what most of us think of as a traditional kilt. If it was really really cheap, and I were you, I would probably say 'eh, live and learn'. Otherwise, I'd definitely be annoyed at the shallow (almost non existent) pleats.

It was relatively cheap, and I definitely learned to ask for more pics before bidding. I emailed the seller, so I'll see if they'll do anything.

Was wondering about the apron, thought maybe the photo had gotten flipped. I was leaning toward skirt, and should have come right out and said so I suppose. Hope they make it right with you.

This does seem to be one of those 'If it seems too good to be true it probably isn't' situations.

Unfortunately - having seen a man wearing a similar garment, the shape pressed into the pleats is usually not right - the flare of child bearing hips requires more fabric higher up, so the pleats collapse inwards - women just have more hip for a given waist size.

As it is wool perhaps it could be taken apart and redone as a man's kilt, perhaps with box pleats, so all is not lost. What length of fabric is there in the skirt? It looks fairly generous for a skirt.

For some reason I find that the concept of a tartan kilt with permanent pleats involves the pattern being taken into account, so there is a homage being made to the fabric itself. I think, actually, that just about defines the difference between a tartan skirt and a kilt in modern times.

The apron is the wrong way around and the pleats are far to shallow for a kilt.

If it is a kilt then it's a ladies one.

A few things to point out...

Notice the darts in the front apron? Notice the depth of the pleats? Notice the 3/4" straps? Notice the apron opens the opposite way? Notice the length of roughly 28"? It also looks like 11 oz material...

It's a "Kilted Skirt"... a ladies garment. If it was advertised as a kilt, you may want to take it up with the seller. If they won't take it back, try re-selling it as a Kilted Skirt and hopefully a lucky lady can take it off of your hands!

Rocky, I noticed the darts after I posted the pics last night. If the seller won't do the right thing, then I'll try and sell it. Hopefully I can get a majority of my money back.

    Thanks guys,

    Jake
