I always figured that there were rules for "formal kilting" or even "dress Kilt" but when it comes to casual, pretty much anything goes.
I look at kilts like most look at pants. If I can wear a hawaiian shirt with pants, then I can wear it with a kilt. I'm on my way to becoming kilted full time, and once I do so, I don't want there to be restrictions on what I'm able to buy/wear. Some people would say that sandels are a NO when wearing a kilt, but I would disagree with that also.
Now I do agree with you that it may clash, or look a little "off" to wear a Hawaiian shirt or sandels, or maybe even a cowboy hat. BUT if I'm not wearing a kilt to a formal event then I'm all for comfort. Comfort is one of the top reasons I wear a kilt.
I perfectly understand if you don't agree, but that's ok. We don't have to agree.
