I have always stayed away from any XMarks threads about Jacobite shirts but I'm finally going to weigh in.

I am not into "historically correct" dress and certainly dont' wear a kilt as a costume. I tend to think that a lot of people in the states eschew them as "brigadoonish" if thats a word. With all that being said the shirts themselves are very popular in Scotland and can be seen VERY often as er...."dressy casual" wear. Think boots, scrunched down hose, kilt and Jacobite shirt on a Hogmanay pub crawl. Who are we as Americans to tell the Scots that they are wearing their national dress in the wrong way? They're aren't any kilt police you know, except for McMurdo, and Grant has him under control.

They are popular around the western world, look good, feel comfortable. I know I will continue to wear the one that I purchased along with a kilt at Anderson Kilts on Academy street in Dumfries not 5 blocks from Ferintosh and will add more to the collection once I have found a source in a lighter weight fabric more suited to the Virginia climate I live in.

Ok, semi-rant over.
