I've had better luck finding vests at thrift stores. I have 4 now and only paid retail for 1!

I second that check your local thrift stores! You will not believe what people give up, and you can find there.

I have a couple of those western vests. They are very well made, a little pricey depending on your view. I was married in one (western wedding), and it looked fantastic with my frock coat. I'm too new to say about wearing one with a kilt, but they are great vests.

Here's a photo of one of those Victorian era vests worn with an Argyll jacket at my daughter's recent wedding...my wife to the far left, my daughter, her husband and myself on the far right:

Frankly, I think it looks terrific. The vest is short so that it doesn't interfere with the sporran and the notched lapel is a more elegant look, in my opinion, than a flat lapel, especially with the wing collar and the rutched cravat of Dupioni silk.

I am ordering a charcoal Ettrick tweed Argyll jacket from Matt Newsome and I plan on ordering a yard or so extra of the material to have a matching notched lapel vest made.
