I am repulsed, yet attracted to this thread.
One one hand, I am impressed with one persons ingenuity and creativeness, on the other hand:
As terribly warm as it is currently, finding road-killed snakes is difficult at best
This, this, is just creeeeepy!
Seeing the snake in the hose makes one wonder even more what's under the kilt.
Oh, and can I have one of these:

Q: What's the difference between a snake in the road and a piper in the road?
A: Skid marks in front of the snake.

wow...very creative....but darn scary! I don't have any real fear of snakes (i've kept garter snakes as pets) but man.....the cast is so perfect, it could really catch you off guard.
Either way, I'm impressed with your skill!

Hmmmmm... I'm starting to ponder cantles... Would have to be a different material though.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

At the urging of a customer for an ivory-colored snakehead, here's what I came up with. The model on the left appeared to be more beeswax-like, and the other model seemed to simulate newly carved ivory. The only downside of 'ivory' is the visible lack of detail. Everything's there, it's just more difficult to discern.
I have more specimens scheduled to arrive, so the models won't be limited to this one in particular, though it certainly has been more popular than I'd ever speculated. Vipers oughta be especially impressive.

And, just outta the mold, here's another in experimental 'metal flake green'.

Slainte yall,
steve

Now that could be really different - just the snake body. It wouldn't necessarily hafta be other than cast plastic.
It could be cold-cast. This technique uses the same resin, however, powdered metal is mixed in. It's created the same fashion, then a fine buffing brings out the metal's sheen. The effect can be indistinguishable from solid metal.
This is done regularly with bronze powder for figurines.

Those are truly unique and awesome. Germany doesn't have too many snakes, otherwise I would be sending you one. Ever done non reptiles? Can you make a cast of a fat lazy orange cat?

Exactly what I was thinking, JS Sanders. The other thought was a casting of the snake almost as a relief sculpture back and forth on a cantal plate of some sorte. That could probably be done in silver or puter.. Just pondering things...

Are you referring to Garfield? Could be copyright issues doing that, otherwise cats are difficult to hold still while the molding material cures. And then, there's all that cat hair.
Non-reptilians thus far have been a length of tree branch & a duck's head. I've done the tree branch. And the duck head - I have the model, just not made a mold yet. It's a ruddy duck, so not too large. See photos below.
I've cast lotsa items, many aren't useful sgian handles. I cast multiple clan badges, so now I don't need to switch them almost contantly.
One thought was to cast a cigar as a sgian handle... could color them as maduro or candela wrappers. Sure would hate to waste a good cigar tho'.
I've been kept busy casting snakeheads and assembling sgians with them. That's what I'll be doing this afternoon. I think I've fallen into an open niche and the only way to get out is to fill it.
Completed osage orange (bodark) branch handle-only

Duck model - not final cast product....
