Oh, dear. One of my reasons for going to Chicago is to meet an old and dear friend who is a Franciscan Sister, who served as a missionary in Africa for 25 years. I was going to invite her to join me at the Fest. Now I wonder if it would be an embarrasment.

What's to worry? Maybe she should show up and give the ersatz nun some pointers. I haven't met a Sister in the past twenty years that didn't have a good sense of humor...I think that they've realized that they, like most of us, need it to cope with the modern world. Anyway, tht's not all there is at the festa...in fact, it's usually a pretty small event...there are usually more people in the Uillean Pipe tent listening to the tuneage.

...and isn't English a great language? I never thought that I'd ever have occasion to string the words "ersatz" and "nun" together...

Another "choir" member chiming in. Thank you AA for the articulate and passionate thread. You seem to be in the majority. There is a line and you have drawn it. Thanks again.
