I am reminded of a quote that I see quite often as it is on the bottm of Matt's blog

    Advice for every kilt wearer
"The Highland dress is essentially a 'free' dress -- that is to say, a man's taste and circumstances must alone be permitted to decide when and where and how he should wear it... I presume to dictate to no man what he shall eat or drink or wherewithal he shall be clothed." -- The Hon. Stuart Ruaidri Erskine, The Kilt & How to Wear It, 1901.

With this in mind I've got to say this idea just would not work and I for one am not interested in taking part in it.

I too will not be taking part.

I recommend that those who are eager to do so head over to http://www.hotornot.com/ or perhaps one of you with good HTML skills can create a kilted equivalent.

Maybe it's an age thing to not be interested in this, but beauty certainly isn't the reason why I joined Xmarks. Kinship and camaraderie with those of similar interests IS -- and I see this as being counter intuitive to that goal.

See, the thing is, sometimes I think I look best when I'm covered in sweat, and grimy, but doing some MANLY (hoo-RAH) thing like throwing hammers 'n stuff.

    Ew.

    Ew, is right.

IMO, this sounds stupid but then again i'm the type of guy to go against someone on looks.

It sounds like one of those things that sounds good when you hear it, but probably wouldn't work in practice. I wouldn't risk it, even if we could make it work.

My feelings exactly. I have been to too many competitions where something that is truly subjective (beauty, for instance) is subjected to an analytical, quantitative, "objective" set of standards. Quite frankly, it cannot be done! Any attempt to do so would IMHO destroy what this site is built to promote.

And it's just not that.. they very quickly develop into a popularity contest, rather tha judged on merit, and the integrity of the judges usually gets drug through the mud... we definitely don't want this place to be mired in that kind of an atmosphere.
