Well... I never considered that.
If I remember correctly, in the first picture, I am standing in front of my neighbor's bougainvillea bushes. In the other picture I am standing at my front fence, and behind me would be a few of the giant cacti I grow, then my *ehem cough cough* aluminum cottage.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Well, I guess that's it until I recieve the Lewis hose. I'll try to get a picture of this outfit with the waistcoat and Lewis hose in it's dressed up version... and without the flat cap.

Just saw a thread about USAK offering brown straps and brass buckles etc. It reminded me of a small part of this outfit.
I have been told that this kilt does have brown straps and the silver buckles. I chose to use silver and brown for the outfit partly because of this. The kilt belt has a silver buckle, and the chain and bead tastles on the bunny sporran are dark brown. My kilt pin is silver, but with a gold Toro on it. Finally, I am wearing a gold sword, tie clip. Mixing silver and gold?!
*GASP!*
I think this is fine because the kilt has plenty of brown, but also a black stripe. What can you do... If I had a choice though, I might have gon with brass buckles and so on.

Ted, I just ran across this thread and wish to add my compliments on your ensemble.
Looks great & I can't wait to see it with the Lewis hose!

(apologies to Jock Scot) I like the flat cap with tweedy outdoor outfits. There is a pic (or several) floating around of me on a Dumfries pub crawl wearing a kilt and a flat cap on some Burns Weekend or other. I wear that here often but I'll have to rethink ![Think](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/think.gif) that one for the upcoming Burns Weekend in January. ...
* Sigh * That is whi I titled this thread "American: Smart Casual Style" because I understand that it does not look right to Scottish eyes. I'm not even sure if the use of corduroy looks alright to the folks of Scotland.
I will be getting pictures of the whole outfit including the waistcoat before long. I will leave the flat cap out of those pictures. There is nothing I can do about the corduroy because that is all I have to work with at this point.
I rarely wear the kilt, so going without a hat for a few pictures is no big deal. In the future I will try to find a better option than the flat cap.

I'm wi' you. American casual styles to me equals more USA converts, a good thing.
And I wear flat caps of all types, weights, and materials (try leather).
I'd show a little more knee though.

I'm looking into bonnets, deerstalkers, and fore and afts. I need to ask several more questions to the Scottish forum members about bonnets so as to not misunderstand which are proper with the kilt.
A thread on this would probably be best. There are several different bonnets that I can buy, but there are things about them that I don't understand.
Tomorrow, I will be picking up my Lewis hose, and will try to get pictures. These will be of this same kilt and jacket, but will include the matching waistcoat, the leather shoes, and a white shirt this time. The tweed walking shoes and matching flat cap will be gone along with the belt of course.
I think I need a crook to lean on, but that will be the completion of the daywear outfit.
