    I own a pair - that I wear with a pair of plus fours. To play golf.

    Anyway, they're thin, like dress socks, and don't come up high enough to be folded over. They're fine for the intended purpose, but they'd be too cheap-looking to wear with a kilt. And, let's be honest here, argyle socks with a kilt? A definite no-no.

    It seems to me that there's a very thin line between argyle and tartan hose. Given the right choice and arrangment of colors, the pattern would work.
