I wore a kilt and my caubeen on Halloween. Never mind that most Irish stopped wearing caubeens before they started wearing kilts. I know that's an anachronism, but it never stopped Irish pipe bands, so i don't see why it should stop me. At least it's one occasion when no-one wants to know why you are wearing a kilt.

My Halloween costume. I went as Mung from Chowder. (Mustache kept falling off) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:ChowderPuppets.jpg Thats a pic from Wikipedia of him. Swap the socks, and a nicer shirt... (that was my fencing jacket, still got some compliments from the British lady...) No, I don't wear glasses, those are a clear sunglasses from when I ran a sunglasses store.

Yeah, I posted this same message in another thread, but it belongs here too.

My favorite part of the evening was when this little kid walked past and started saying "rabble rabble rabble" it was perhaps even better then the lady from England complimenting me.

I found a way to use the kilt as a costume. On the cruise I was on, on Halloween, many people were in costume. I didn't think to bring one, so what did I do?

I put on my kilted formal outfit and if anyone asked, I was Sir Sean Connery. It helps that I'm bald like he is.

Another option to use the kilt is to go the masked ball route. Dress up in your formal outfit and carry one of the masks that are use for the masked balls.

The pipers of Irish Regiments of the British Army wear Caubeens to this very day.

This halloween I wore my black leather SK but as a kilt, not a costume. The costume part was the pirate hat leftover from my birthday party (which falls on Int'l Talk Like a Pirate Day).
Plenty of looks, a few pictures with the lasses, one comment : "Real men wear kilts ! "
Riverkilt's pic gives me terrible ideas for next year ....
