I think that even a bottle opener would be best in checked luggage.

What I do is take my wood handled comb "sgian don't". When going through Security and on the plane I just stick it in my carry-on bag. Once I have left the gate I stick it back in my sock.

I think making things easy on airport security is both courteous and makes my trip easier.
