His Dress Blue A or B uniform will be what he'd wear to the Ball.

As to the question of which Tartan? The CG authorizes the CG Tartan or family Tartan to be worn. SInce I am 100% Scottish with four clan ties I chose the Stewart for it's compliment to the dinner dress jacket.

At my wedding reception some 25 years ago, I wore the Marine Corps officer mess dress jacket with a kilt in the Government Sett (Black Watch).

The jacket has a high standing collar and is worn without a tie, and is trimmed in red piping, gold buttons, silver and gold EGA on the collar, gold wire embroidery on the cuffs and silver wire for my rank insignia (captain). Other accessories included a black kilt belt with silver buckle and a dress sporran of white fur and silver cantle.

Not regulation and I'm not even sure if it was authorized or not, but I'd seen photos of others wearing it and since my wife and I met at Scottish Country Dancing I decided it was appropriate.

Commander, my clan tartan (and tank) is Duncan, however I'm retired law enforcement and a USCG enlisted veteran. I wear the USCG kilt pin on both the law enforcement tartan and black watch tartan kilts.

Here's a picture of the USMC officer mess dress uniform (center figure). It's easy to see that it would go very well with the blue, red & gold in a Leatherneck tartan kilt.

The Mess Dress jacket worn by the company grade officer on the right is the like the one I wore at my wedding reception. Instead of the cumberband, I wore a black leather kilt belt with a silver buckle.

Unfortunately, the Leatherneck tartan didn't exist way back then, so I wore the Government Sett (Black Watch) - which also looks very good with this.

Trying to find out where the wife stuck our photos so I can scan a few for this thread.
